The flash flooding of the Guadalupe River in Central Texas caught residents and campers by surprise in the middle of the night and into the early morning hours of July 4. A month’s worth of rain fell in hours as entire houses were swept away by violently swift waters. Along with residential areas, Camp Mystic, a Christian girl’s camp, was caught in the flooding. Currently, there are 120 reported deaths and 173 people still missing across the state.
LOCAL RESOURCES
FUMC Georgetown: First United Methodist Church Georgetown are collecting completed Flood Buckets and/or items for those buckets through July 28: You can find that list here. Charlie Cline is leading our Relief and Recovery Teams to help clean up in various areas. Please reach out to him via email. disasterrelief@fumcgt.org or (713) 410-5180.
Meals for Hope House: Liberty Hill's Hope House has been a home for profoundly disabled children, providing them with lifelong care. Hope House has been impacted by flooding and had to evacuate one of their homes. Residents were temporarily moved to other Hope House homes. One way they could use support is already prepared meals, ready to serve. This allows them to focus on kids and not food prep. There are currently 5 homes on this list as the main home site was impacted and going through clean up efforts now. Each sign up slot is for one of the 5 houses and meals provided should cover 10-11 people and includes staff working and kids in the house. Kid friendly meals appreciated. Sign up Here.
